Our Little Life

Somehow things have kind of exploded into activity for a week or so.  Fall does that.  Just after I got the goats we had company.  It was great to have visitors, but it sure makes a week go by quickly.  While they were here we had lots of fun taking them to see the local sights and even convinced them that it would be fun to help out at our farmers’ market.  It is fun and it was the last of the season for me.  Whew!  I was ready to be done.

We managed to get all cleaned up downtown, I’m in charge of the market so I have some extra stuff to do rather than just bail at the last market.  We had someone show up with free kittens at the market and wouldn’t you know we came home with one.  So, we are now up to three cats.  Well, one cat, one older kitten, and one little kitten.  The kids named the new little guy, Fish.  He is orange with blue eyes.  So cute.

Our cast of characters is now:

Two doe goats: Chamomile and BB

Three cats: Two boys, Sparky and Fish and one girl, Ledora

One dog: Kyra

Two chickens: Big Red and Chicken Little

Three beef yearlings that rent our pasture, and my kids: a six-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl.

It can become rather chaotic around here.  Next Spring I will probably add a few chicks but that should be it for a while.  We might get another dog if the right one comes along but we aren’t looking hard at the moment.

Well, our firewood got delivered last night and the rain seems to have tapered off to a drizzle so I’d better go stack firewood.  Feels good to have two cords of wood on the place.  I have tomatoes in the crockpot cooking down to can and I’ll be canning plums later.  Gotta stack firewood first.
