We have weeds. Whew! Lots of tumbleweeds and some other stickery nasty weed. So far no puncture vine but you can bet I’m on the look out for it. My problem is that I don’t want to use chemicals on the place. That means a lot of pulling and pokes in my hands and stickers in my ankles from stuff falling in my boots. It sounds a lot worse than it is. If I were smart and wore pants instead of shorts the stickers wouldn’t fall down my boots. It is too warm though and a little discomfort is well worth the joy of wearing shorts for the first time this year.
I only got two wheel barrow loads before the munchkins needed a little extra attention. It is “quiet time” and they weren’t being quiet. So I get to come in and monitor for a while. That is okay. It gets me out of the heat and gets me some water. And it allows me to update here.
I really need to figure out the bugs in my garden. Well, this local entomologist popped up with the name right off the bat. Army cutworms which turn into Miller moths. I figured as much but I wanted to confirm. So now I get to pursue various extension offices and their publications for how to take care of the things. Too bad I don’t have the chickens right now. I’m sure they would think the little guys are tasty little treats.
I think I’m off to do a bit more research.
