I love discussing the garden with my 4 year old!  We are going to need a big garden to get everything in that we want.  He wants radishes, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, peas, and carrots to start with.  These are for vegetable soup he tells me.  He wants to grow asparagus (one of his favorite veggies) in his fruit garden he tells his dad.  Sounds right to me.  The fruit garden would be a more perennial garden and asparagus is a perennial so…

We are looking at needing an orchard and a large garden.  These kids of ours eat so much produce a person could break the bank shopping for it.  We all like fruits and veggies but the kiddos can put it away big time.  We got them a cantaloupe treat the other day.  Each kid ate half a cantaloupe.  Us adults?  I got a few bites and he got one.  Oh, and the kids were very sad there was no more melon.  They go through 6-10 pounds of apples a week.  Now that I look at that number I’m scared.  We’d better have a couple of apple trees that produce like crazy.  Despite the cost if we have to put in trees or the time we’ll have to wait for them to produce I don’t think we can afford not to have apple trees.  I’d really like to have other fruit as well.  Pears, raspberries, strawberries, peaches, and apricots all top my list.

Now if we can just find that chunk of property where we can plant.  Then we’ll be golden.

About littlehawkyarns

I'm a gardener that is trying to provide good food for my family to enjoy. I have two children, two dogs, a husband, four chickens, and four cats. In addition gardening I enjoy handwork such as knitting, crochet, and sewing. I'm in the process of trying to learn tatting and embroidery as well. I am soon adding more critters to the collection since we just got property and I spin yarn.
