Update to what is planted

I planted a good portion of the veggie garden yesterday and I got lots of garden chores done.  My husband was home and able to help keep an eye on kids so I got a lot more than normal done.  We managed to make it to our local garden club’s plant sale as well.  That was fun.  My son picked out some Dianthus for the flower garden.  I managed to get several tomato plants, some marigolds to edge the garden, and a geranium for the porch.  I spent less than $40 dollars.  I know because I took cash and came home with a bit left-over in my pocket.  I love when that happens.

The list of my veggie garden plants so far:

Onions– Walla Walla and Yellow

Peas

Carrots

Leeks

Turnips

Radishes

Lettuce–some sort of leaf mix and romaine

Garlic–Walla Walla Early and a mix of whatever is at the grocery store for eating (mine sprouted)

Potatoes–Russet Burbank

Tomatoes–Haven’t gone in yet but they got moved into the greenhouse yesterday.  We’ll see how they survived the night.

Poppies– A border of plants I got from my neighbor that was clearing out a bed.  They aren’t very happy about being transplanted right now but they may recover.

Plants I want to put in but haven’t yet:

Zucchini

Cucumbers

Peppers

Beans

Broccoli

Today will be more projects around trying to get the Dianthus planted in the flower garden, planting my beans and zucchini seeds, and maybe mowing the lawn. I also need to see about collecting some more newspaper so I can mulch in between my rows.  Mulch doesn’t get rid of all the weeds but it sure cuts down on them.  Last year I used sawdust animal bedding and this year I’m using newspaper and cedar mulch.

Well, the sun is up, the coffee pot is empty, and I have chores waiting.  I guess it is time to get off the computer.

About littlehawkyarns

I'm a gardener that is trying to provide good food for my family to enjoy. I have two children, two dogs, a husband, four chickens, and four cats. In addition gardening I enjoy handwork such as knitting, crochet, and sewing. I'm in the process of trying to learn tatting and embroidery as well. I am soon adding more critters to the collection since we just got property and I spin yarn.
